Adivasis to file mass complaints/FIRs in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh on June 14

An appeal by Adivasi Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh:

Dear friends in Media and Civil Society,

Displacement without consent is a crime! Please come and support the Adivasi struggle against the illegal dispossession of their lands by companies and land mafia.

On 14 June 2017 around 100 Adivasis of villages Bhengari, Khokhroama, Katangdih, and Nawapara (Tenda) will be invoking their Constitutional and statutory rights and approaching the SC ST Welfare (Special) Police Station, Raigarh to submit complaints against the illegal dispossession of their lands that has occurred through threats, intimidation, coercion, and misinformation, and to request the registration of FIRs against the accused.

Adivasis are encouraged by the 8 May direction of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to officials in Raigarh to take action under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in cases wherein the land of tribal people was transferred illegally. We are also encouraged by the Supreme Court judgment on the mandatory registration of FIRs in Lalitha Kumari vs Govt. of U.P. & Ors.

On behalf of Adivasi Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh, we appeal to all media and civil society organisations to stand by the community in solidarity on 14th June 2017.
