Girijana Samkshema Parishath (GSP) will hold “Gondwana Sammelan”, a national tribal convention, in Bhadrachalam on February 21 and 22 next year.
It is aimed at building a broad-based national movement for implementation of the constitutional rights of Adivasis and their right to self-rule besides, legislations meant to protect their interests in scheduled areas.
In a statement, the GSP Telangana convener Sonde Veeraiah said the convention would serve as a platform to galvanise Adivasi communities and mount pressure on the Centre to declare all the districts in scheduled areas spread across the Gondwana region in the country as Adivasi districts.
The forthcoming convention would give an impetus to the long-cherished demand of Adivasis inhabiting scheduled areas of Khammam district for an Adivasi district with Bhadrachalam as its headquarters, he said, adding that Adivasi leaders from Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and several other States would be invited for the convention.
